Jeff's SCUBA Links
I know, everyone has a list of links they think are great. Here's mine. It's a little different though. This site is primarily based on scuba safety and instruction, therefore, so is this list of links. At least for now, there is nothing here on travel, equipment, stores, or pretty much anything else commercial. This may change in the future, but for now, if you have a link that you think may fit into this, just send me a note and I'll see if I agree -- if I do, it will be incorportated post haste.
The most important links
- Jeff's SCUBA Site
- I put this one first because it's the one I maintain (modest aren't I?). The area is still under development (and probably always will be), but shows you where I'm
heading.
- SCUBA Safety Page
- This is what started it all -- well at least this scuba site. I needed to write a diver assistance plan for becoming divemaster, and I wanted to learn how to write stuff for the web. Put the two together and you get the start of a web site for diving.
- The Instruction Zone
- Well really, it's the construction zone until I finish writing it. This site will provide information on certification through the PADI system and opportunities to take scuba classes through the Scuba Club at Virginia Tech.
- SCUBA Club at Virginia Tech
- Where would we be without people to dive with? This is a great group of fellow divers.
How 'bout some diving medical information
- Diving Medicine
- Covers some of the medical aspects of diving. The articles are written by qualified
"Diving Doctors" who devise BSAC diving medical policy. (UK based info)
SCUBA Diving Certification Agencies
- PADI - Professional Association of Diving Instructors
- Happens to be the certification agency that taught me and whose system I teach.
- NAUI - National Association OF Underwater Instructors
- One of the other scuba certifying agencies.
Here are some folks doing research in diving related stuff
- Diver's Alert Network
- DAN provides a service to the diving community by providing medical related information and testing.
- Hyperbaric Unmanned Test Facility
- The Hyperbaric Unmanned Test Facility (UTF) is used for equipment development and evaluation at simulated depths to 1000 feet below sea level. This information comes from Canada's Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine.
- Diving Research Facility
- The Diving Research Facility is a Canadian-designed deep-ocean simulator capable of being pressurized to 5600 feet (1800 m) below sea level. More information from Canada's Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine.
- Sea Grant - Research to Improve the Safety of Divers
- Sea Grant is uniquely suited, through its university-based network and its outreach programs, to support research beneficial to divers and to communicate those useful research findings to them.
Some other people with info on dive safety
- SCUBA Rescue & Life Saving
- I really couldn't find a name on this one, but this person has put together some info on signs and symptoms of different diving related injuries.
Commercial Diving Information
- OSHA's
Commercial Diving Information Site
- Information from the US's OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) on some of the safety requirements if you're diving for commercial purposes.
This page has a fair amount of basic information plus links to OSHA's
documents.
- Canadian Association of Diving Contractors
- Canada has a different set of rules than OSHA's in the US. Here they are.
Want to keep surfing the net? Here's more places to find links
- Rick's Master Scuba
Links
- Rick has done an excellent job with his page of links. From what I have seen, it is the most complete list of scuba links anywhere. He keeps adding to it as he finds more stuff. I won't even try to make a list like his since he has done such a good job.
- Yahoo - Recreation: Outdoors: Scuba
- Everyone else has a link to Yahoo, why not me?
